Skimmers have been an effective technology in the process of treating produced water for many years. Mostly used as a pre-treatment option, skimmers are effective in the reduction of oil and solids prior to reaching the flotation technology. As a general rule of thumb, skimmers are designed to remove upwards of 2000 ppm of oil at an efficiency rate of 85%. Skimmers are generally designed to ASME standards but can be designed for atmospheric conditions as well. There are multiple options that can be added to the Skimmer design to enhance efficiency. These include a packing section, solids removing cyclones, and flotation. These can be new builds as well as reconditioned packages which are less expensive and can be delivered quicker.
